A Little Bit About Bhutan
Bhutan, the land of Gross National Happiness, is located between the Tibetan Autonomous Region, China in the north and India in the south. Gross National Happiness was conceived in Bhutan and is a concept that promotes the happiness and well being of the people as more important than Gross Domestic Product.
With a population of 800,000, the kingdom has consciously taken a measured approach to preserve its unique culture and traditions.
Bhutan first opened its door to international visitors only in the 70’s. Since then a policy of high value and low volume tourism has been adopted, a policy which is very much inline with sustainable development.
Visitors have described Bhutan as a beautiful, peaceful country with its majestic Himalayan mountains, clean meandering river valleys, impressive fortresses, fluttering prayer flags, exquisite cuisine, and smiling, happy people! Bhutan is a land of myths and legends where every space is sacred! The Bhutanese people live in harmony with their environment, fiercely protective of their culture and yet open to the new ideas and ways of other cultures.
